National Prize Winning Bee Aware Science Team to Speak at Alternatives to Pesticides Workshop in Asheville on March 27

Four home schoolers from Banner Elk, NC, are taking the state and nation by storm! ( Or is that by swarm?) Their presentations on what we can do to help pollinators are opening hearts and minds.

Now they are trying to get the NC legislature to approve a honeybee license plate to raise funds for pollinator habitat at Grandfather Mountain and for bee research at NC State University.  But time is running out! They have to have 500 orders by March 30 to get approval.

If you live in North Carolina, consider ordering your license plate for an extra $15. Click here for the application, with complete instructions.

If you happen to be in Asheville on Friday, March 27, come meet the students and bring your checkbook, license plate number, your drivers license number, year/make/model/body style of your car, vehicle identification number, and full name of your insurance company & the policy number.

From 6:00 to 9:00 this Friday at Lenoir Rhyne University’s Asheville campus on Montford Avenue, the Bee Aware Team, Toxic Free NC, and water specialist Brett Laverty, from the NC Department of Environment & Natural Resources, will discuss the last fifty years’  pesticide revolution in farming and landscape management and its adverse impacts on people, pollinators and waterways, with the goal of starting a community-wide discussion on ways to end America’s addiction to artificial pesticides.
